Star Stream is a fast-paced bullet-hell shooter inspired by the Touhou Project series, developed from the ground up in GameMaker Studio. Designed to capture the intensity, pattern-based combat, and sweeping aesthetic of classic danmaku games, Star Stream blends challenging gameplay with a fully original cast, story, and stage progression.Players control Ayame Asashina, navigating dense and dynamic bullet patterns while progressing through a series of increasingly dangerous stages. Each enemy type features unique attack behaviors—randomized spreads, aimed shots, spiraling patterns—and boss battles introduce multi-phase spellcard attacks that push the player’s precision, awareness, and reflexes.The game emphasizes readable but challenging bullet patterns, smooth player movement, and clear visual telegraphs. Enemy behavior, collision systems, and spellcard logic were implemented using custom GameMaker scripts. Psychedelic Art Project – Concept & IntentThis project began with broad secondary research into four themes: anime, gaming, music, and drugs in society. From this, I chose to explore the topic of psychedelics and altered perception, driven by an interest in how the human mind interprets reality and how much of our perception is shaped by biological limitations.Humans perceive colour through three receptors, while species like the mantis shrimp possess sixteen — seeing a reality entirely different to ours. This idea of multiple “realities” and hidden layers of perception became the foundation of my project.My intention was to create artwork that blends real-life photography with digital manipulation, using distortion, surreal colour, and atmospheric effects to visualise an altered state of consciousness. Rather than focusing on drug use itself, the project investigates the visual symbolism of psychedelics, asking viewers to question their sense of reality and consider how differently the world might appear through another lens.Through vibrant, mind-bending visuals, my goal was to personify the psychedelic experience in a metaphorical way — exploring distortion, heightened colour, and dream-like imagery to represent the mind’s attempt to make sense of unfamiliar perception.

Anime Illustration Project – Concept & IntentThis project focused on creating a stylised anime-inspired book cover that blends elements of romance, comedy, mystery, and sunset symbolism. My intention was to explore how visual design can communicate emotion, narrative tone, and character dynamics through simplified shapes and carefully chosen colour palettes.I was particularly inspired by the expressive use of skies in anime, especially the dramatic sunset scenes found in works by Makoto Shinkai. Research into sunsets revealed how they often symbolise transition, nostalgia, endings, and emotional turning points, which led me to incorporate a deep, glowing sunset as the backdrop for my final piece. The use of darker purples, pinks, and oranges reflects the idea of a “last glow”—a moment where something meaningful is coming to an end or about to change.I wanted the characters to express personality through colour, accessories, and silhouette rather than detailed facial features. Research into anime tropes guided this decision:
• Hair colour reflects emotional tone and character traits.
• Glasses often imply introversion or intelligence.
• Eye patches can symbolise uniqueness, mystery, or the “chuunibyou” archetype.
• Ties and uniform styling hint at a school-life romance setting.By giving both characters matching hair colours, I subtly communicated their compatibility and connection, while their individual accessories highlight their differences. The simplified, eye-less style gives them anonymity and invites viewers to interpret their personalities themselves.The title, Love’s Last Glow, uses an elegant script typeface selected for its association with romance and emotional storytelling. Script typography adds warmth and movement, reinforcing the themes of connection and sentimentality.My final outcome combines these elements into a cover that reflects the emotional complexity of a young romance—capturing the moment where two characters realise the sunlight is fading and time is running out, yet something meaningful still remains between them.
